KMRHS - Christmas Layout at Portage City Hall
At the city's request, KMRHS members Lorraine Fedorchak-Kraker and Andrew McConachie created a
layout in the Portage City Hall lobby for the 2017 Christmas Season. In addition to equipment
provided by the members and the society, Peg Giem provided trains and buildings from the
collection of Seth Giem II and "The Train Barn".
This layout is a salute to Seth and the Train Barn for being a part of Portage History for so
long. The Historical Society of Portage held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
for the layout in City Hall, Monday, December 4th at 6:30PM. The public was
invited and the event was well attended. Steve Rossio from the Historical Society of Portage
gave an interesting narrative about the significance of transportation, including railroads,
to the Portage area. Lorraine Fedorchak-Kraker of the Kalamazoo Model Railroad
Historical Society spoke about the history of our organization.
